Sofía Martínez
Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, in 1976, Sofía Martínez holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History from the Jesuit University of Guadalajara, ITESO. Her artistic journey flourished through her experience in painting and printmaking workshops at the Antonio Segoviano School of the Arts in León, Guanajuato.
Fascinated by the intricate patterns present in nature, such as those sculpted by waves caressing the shore, Sofía channels her artistic expression through a unique lens. She aligns her work with the art of collage, presenting viewers with intricately layered textures. While the initial impression may suggest randomness, each piece is the outcome of a deliberate and contemplative artisanal process. Through an eclectic array of materials, including paper, embroidery floss, and clay, Sofía seeks to evoke the organic rhythms of nature. Her adept mastery of these materials transforms them, defying expectations—paper resembling fabric, clay folding like paper.
In 2023, Sofía's work was exhibited at BARCO (Contemporary Art Biennial of León), earning her recognition through the acquisition of one of her pieces. Her artistic footprint extends across various collective exhibitions throughout Mexico, notably at Galería Manuk in León, Guanajuato, with "Puntos de Vista" [Points of view], and at Servidor Local, Mexico City, featuring "Cenários." The pinnacle of her achievements in 2023 was marked by a solo exhibition titled "Naturaleza Modular" [Modular Nature] at Torre Andrade in León, Guanajuato.
