Trastienda Machete

OUR HISTORY
Trastienda Machete is contemporary art platform: a project of Galería Machete, a gallery specialized in Latin American Contemporary Art. Trastienda was born in 2014 with the aim of promoting the work of emerging artists and fostering young collecting. The project offers a
physical space attached to the main gallery, and each year the artists of Trastienda have the opportunity to exhibit in the main gallery in exhibitions such as ‘New __ on the Block 1, 2,3’, featuring artists like Andrea Villalón, María Conejo, Mariana Paniagua, Floria González, María Fragoso, among others.
In January 2022,  Trastienda Machete opens its first independent space in Roma Sur. In January 2025 we open our first curatorial space in the Juárez neighborhood featuring exhibition spaces and an outdoor terrace facing Reforma skyline and Chapultepec avenue.
Our project seeks to continue our objective since its foundation, renewing itself towards a platform for contemporary art. Working in a physical showroom and a digital
platform, where fostering dialogue and collaboration among artists, artisans, and creatives in a transparent and open manner, consolidating itself as a vibrant and innovative space within the Mexican artistic scene.

Manifesto

At Trastienda Machete, we promote equality, diversity in art, and decentralization. By working with artists of various genders, states, and countries, we primarily promote the
work of Latin American artists, mostly women, who maintain a constant dialogue with our Mexico, as well as countries like Argentina, Brazil, Chile, among others. We create
meaningful and lasting relationships with our artists, resulting in collaborations that have a growth impact on both sides.

We are interested in exhibiting artists who contribute to current social, political, economic, and aesthetic debates within the contemporary world. The artists and network of creatives we collaborate with are active members of their respective artistic
communities; we value their work, their discourse, and their commitment to their craft.

In this regard, we aim to amplify exciting voices that spark interest, curiosity, and dialogue through their work.

Artists

Our artists represent their creative process, technique, and experience through their constant presence in the artistic scene in Mexico and around the world.

We collaborate with a wide diversity of artists, of whom 82% are women artists, residing and working in 10 states of the country. Their work spans across different mediums such as painting, sculpture, and installation. Trastienda has always prioritized
collaboration with national and Latin American artists, as well as promoting the work of women artists with exciting proposals and careers.

We currently collaborate with 28 artists, 82% women and 18% men.
