Ramona Rocha
Ramona Rocha (México, 1990), is a visual artist and active member of the Siete Galería Collective since 2018, investigates the interplay between light and darkness, consistently placing the human figure at the center of enigmatic and unfamiliar settings. Her work transcends mere representation, reconstructing reality through the careful orchestration of light, shadow, and atmosphere. While her subjects are diverse, recurring themes include Catholic saints, particularly the Virgin Mary, liturgical events, and altars reflecting personal experiences from her childhood and adolescence, pursued out of genuine interest rather than external influence.
In recent projects, Ramona has explored the lives of convenience store employees, drawing on her nearly four years of firsthand experience in such environments. These works emphasize the dignity and positive aspects of daily labor, while also allowing her to develop technical strategies such as surface synthesis through glazing, the creation of focal points with dramatic lighting, and nuanced manipulations of light and shadow.
Her artistic trajectory includes recognition in multiple editions of the Premio Estatal Guillermo Bravo Morán, the Bienal Nacional de Pintura, Grabado y Cerámica Contemporánea Alfredo Zalce (2024), the Primer Concurso Nacional Ángel Zárraga (2022), the Bienal Nacional de Pintura Julio Castillo (2024), and the Encuentro Nacional de Arte Joven (2022 and 2023). Ramona has also been awarded the Programa de Estímulo a la Creación y Desarrollo Artístico (PECDA) in 2021 and the Jóvenes Creadores program in 2023, affirming her vision and contribution to contemporary Mexican art.
